Frequently Asked Questions

Our music is copyrighted, but we grant you permission to use it for free in your videos, provided you follow the rules outlined in our Usage Policy. Unlike many other free music sites, we own all the rights to our music. This means we can guarantee that our music will remain free to use in perpetuity. In addition, we put a lot of work into copyright protection, so you can use our music without worrying about copyright issues.

We only allow approved artists to upload music to Free To Use. Even after approval, each track goes through a review and approval process to ensure it meets our standards. This commitment to quality sets us apart from many other free music sites, where anyone can create an account and upload music instantly.

When using our music for free, you must provide attribution in your video description. This includes listing the artist name(s) and track title(s) of the music you’ve used, along with a link to Free To Use (freetouse.com/music).

Each time you download a track, a pop-up will display an example of correct attribution for that specific track. You can easily copy and paste this into your video description to ensure compliance with our Usage Policy.

If you’re using multiple tracks in a single video, use the following format for attribution:

Track by Artist

If you don’t want to include attribution for each track, consider purchasing one of our subscription plans. A subscription gives you full access to our entire music catalog, and it lets you whitelist your YouTube channel(s), ensuring you won’t receive any Content ID claims when using our music without attribution.

Our music is produced by real artists, not AI, guaranteeing that real, authentic humans are behind the production of every track. Unlike AI-generated content, which currently lacks copyright protection due to undefined ownership, our music is copyright-protected, and we own all the rights to our music.

This means we can ensure that our music will remain free to use forever, allowing you to use it without worrying about copyright issues.

Subscriptions & Licensing ⭐

We offer flexible licensing options to suit various needs – learn more about each license below.

Subscription Plan Licenses

We offer two subscription plan licenses: the Personal Plan and the Commercial Plan.

Personal Plan: Perfect for individual creators, this plan gives you unlimited access to use our full music catalog in user-generated content on social platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok without attribution. You can whitelist your YouTube channel, ensuring that you won’t receive any copyright claims.

Pricing: €7.99/month (billed yearly) or €11.99/month (billed monthly).

Commercial Plan: Ideal for businesses, freelancers, and professional creators, this plan gives you unlimited access to use our full music catalog in a single digital product and unlimited commercial content* without attribution. The plan covers up to 10 accounts simultaneously, all of which you can whitelist to prevent copyright claims.

Pricing: €18.99/month (billed yearly) or €23.99/month (billed monthly).

You may subscribe to one of our plans here: freetouse.com/music/plans

Single-Track Licenses

We offer two single-track licenses: the Pro License and the Broadcast License.

Pro License (€50/one-time payment): A lifetime license for one specific track, suitable for creators, freelancers, and businesses. It covers a single digital product and unlimited commercial content* without attribution limited to one account. You can whitelist your account and download a license certificate as official proof of your usage rights.

Broadcast License (€450/one-time payment): A lifetime license for one specific track, designed for large-scale productions limited to one account. It includes everything from the Pro License, and additionally covers broadcast use such as TV and radio, film and movie productions, and extensive commercial campaigns.

To purchase a single-track license, simply go to the track page (for example: freetouse.com/music/pufino/enlivening) and click “Buy License” next to the download button

*Content created and published with the intent to promote, market, sell, or otherwise support a business, product, service, brand, or commercial activity. This includes, but is not limited to, paid or sponsored content, online advertising, commercial websites, or any content published on behalf of a company or organization.

For complete licensing information, please refer to the Free To Use License.

Whitelisting your YouTube channel – or your client’s channel – is quick and easy. If you have an active subscription, simply click the avatar icon in the upper-right corner of the Free To Use site, then select “My Whitelist.” If you’ve purchased a single-track license, click the avatar icon, then go to “My Licenses” and select the relevant license.

To whitelist a channel, just enter the handle, channel ID, or URL and click the “Add” button. Double-check that it’s the right channel by confirming the profile picture, channel name, and subscriber count all match the channel you want to whitelist.

For single-track licenses, please note that the whitelisted channel is fixed and cannot be changed after it’s been set. With an active subscription, however, you can update and change your whitelisted channels at any time.

If you have whitelisted a client’s channel, we recommend keeping it on your whitelist for a few days after they’ve published the video. YouTube’s Content ID system may take some time to detect the music, and keeping the channel whitelisted helps avoid any claims during that period. Afterward, you can remove the client’s channel, making room to add new clients. This way, your Commercial Plan can cover more than 10 clients, as long as they aren’t posting videos at the same time.

If you have purchased a single-track license, you can download a license certificate that clearly outlines the rights you’ve been granted to use the licensed track. This certificate can be useful when working with clients or addressing copyright issues – such as disputes or appeals – should any unexpected claims arise while using the licensed music.

To download your license certificate, click the avatar icon in the upper-right corner of the Free To Use site, go to “My Licenses” and select the specific license. Here you will find the option to download your license certificate.

Absolutely! You can cancel your subscription anytime – there are no lock-in contracts or cancellation fees. Once you cancel, your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing period, so you’ll still have access to all premium features during that time. Any content you’ve published while your subscription was active will remain licensed and covered under the terms of your plan at the time of use.

To manage or cancel your subscription, click on the avatar icon in the upper-right corner of the Free To Use site, then go to “My Plan”, find your current plan and click on “Manage Subscription”.

All videos you published while your subscription was active will remain permanently cleared, as long as the related YouTube channels were properly whitelisted when publishing. This means you retain the rights to use the music in those videos forever, even after your subscription ends.

However, any new videos uploaded after your subscription expires will not be cleared and may be subject to Content ID claims. You can always resubscribe at any time to access all our music and start posting again.

Music Usage 🎶

Yes! You can monetize your user-generated videos for free on social platforms like YouTube by including the required attribution. As long as correct attribution is added to your video description before changing the video’s visibility from private to public or unlisted, no Content ID claims will be triggered. This ensures your video remains cleared for monetization and fully compliant with our licensing terms. Proper attribution allows you to use our music for free in your non-commercial content without needing a paid license – just make sure it’s added at the right time and formatted correctly.

If you prefer not to include attribution, you can still monetize your videos by purchasing one of our subscription plans or a single-track license. Learn more about our licensing options here.

To use our music in commercial content*, you must have an active subscription to our Commercial Plan or purchase a single-track license. Learn more about our licensing options here.

You can use our music for free in user-generated content shared on social platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitch.

If you’d like to use our music in commercial content or other media formats – such as podcasts, video games, mobile or desktop applications, or other website content – you need either an active Commercial Plan subscription or a single-track license. Learn more about our licensing options here.

The first step is to figure out why you received a Content ID claim. In most cases, it happened because you forgot to add the required attribution before changing your video’s visibility from private to public or unlisted. If the claim was issued by Younited Media GmbH Music on behalf of: Free To Use (freetouse.com), this is very likely the reason.

To get this kind of Content ID claim removed from your video, please add the correct attribution to your video description and send an email to copyright@freetouse.com. In the email, include a link to your YouTube video(s) and an explanation of your situation. Once received, we will remove the Content ID claim from your video. Typically, the process takes 1-3 days, but during periods of high demand, it may take up to 7 days. Please do not dispute the Content ID claim, as this will only prolong the process.

If the content owner shows Free To Use, the removal request and copyright strike were most likely issued by us. This happens when our music is used in commercial content* without the required license(s). Please remember that our music is only free to use in non-commercial content.

If you purchase the required license(s) after receiving a strike, we’ll quickly reinstate your video and clear the strike from your YouTube channel.

To use our music in commercial content*, you’ll need one of the following:

  • An active Commercial Plan subscription
You can purchase the subscription here: freetouse.com/music/plans
Please note that the Personal Plan does not cover commercial content

  • A single-track license to the specific track(s) you’ve used
Click “Buy License” next to the download button on the track page

Learn more about our subscription plans and single-track licenses here.

Once you’ve purchased the required license(s), please email hello@freetouse.com with the URL(s) of the removed video(s). You can find these in your YouTube Studio dashboard or in the emails sent by YouTube regarding the strikes. We’ll then retract the takedown request, which will reinstate your video(s) and clear the copyright strike(s) from your channel. Please note that deleting your video will not remove the strike.

*Content created and published with the intent to promote, market, sell, or otherwise support a business, product, service, brand, or commercial activity. This includes, but is not limited to, paid or sponsored content, online advertising, client projects, or any content published on behalf of a company or organization. It also includes content distributed via, or incorporated into, podcasts, company websites, mobile or desktop applications, and video games.

For complete licensing information, please refer to the Free To Use License.

If you have followed the rules outlined in our Usage Policy and received a copyright claim on any platform other than YouTube, please dispute and/or appeal the copyright claim, stating that you have permission from Free To Use to use the copyrighted music.

A valid dispute/appeal should look something like this (remember to insert your details):

The music used in this video, titled “(Track Title)” by (Artist Name), is licensed under the Free To Use License (https://freetouse.com/license).

For your reference:
Track Title: “(Track Title)”
Artist Name: (Artist Name)
Original Track Source: [Link to the track on Free To Use]

I kindly request an expedited review of this matter and the removal of the claim on my video.

Unfortunately, some platforms don’t have proper processes for creators to dispute and/or appeal automated copyright claims. As much as we wish to help, we cannot do anything about this.

Yes! We take copyright protection seriously so that you can use our music with confidence and peace of mind. Unlike many other free music sites, we own 100% of the rights to every track in our catalog. This gives us complete control over how our music is distributed, licensed, and protected – helping to ensure a safer experience for creators like you.

To safeguard your content from fraudulent copyright claims, we’ve enrolled our entire catalog in major music protection systems, including YouTube’s Content ID and Meta’s Rights Manager.

By keeping our music registered within these audio fingerprinting systems and maintaining clear ownership, we actively protect your ability to monetize your content – and defend you against copyright theft, misuse, or false claims. When used correctly, our music gives you both creative freedom and legal peace of mind.

That said, it’s important to follow the guidelines outlined in our Usage Policy when using our music. If attribution isn’t provided or your YouTube channel hasn’t been properly whitelisted under a subscription or license, automated systems may still place a copyright claim on your video.
